So while I'm super-stoked I just got the shipping notification for my pre-order of Lauren Oliver's Requiem, I'm also trying to purposely seek out stand-alone novels more often, so I don't always feel like I'm left hanging. I'm not trying to abandon series altogether though, so I do intend to read the following series at some point in the not too distant future. Though considering this list of ten easily morphed into twenty, it may take me awhile!
I'm using the first book to represent each series (in no particular order) -- click on any of the covers to go check them out on GoodReads.

That is a lot of series you got there :)
ReplyDeleteOut of those, I've only read The Golden Compass, which I enjoyed very much (polar bear!!). These were very gripping books and I got through them soo fast. Hope you will enjoy too!
Glad to hear you liked them Riv -- I've heard they are considered "modern classics" so I put them on my Classics Club list -- I know I'll cross at least one series of my list in the next five years! :)
DeleteWow! I'm not sure why I havent read A discovery of Witches yet, even though I have both books in the series [so far] One day, I might be able to look at my shelf and say I've read them all. Then again, I can't stop buying books, so I don't think that will ever happen!
ReplyDeleteGreat List!!
Beth | YA Vixens
Vixen's Top Ten!
Oh Beth, I have the exact same problem -- hence the list of 20 series! And sadly to say, I already own most of the books listed despite the fact I haven't cracked the spines on most of them...it's a fun, but vicious cycle!
DeleteAs you know, I highly recommend Gayle Forman - bonus points because she's a quick, but compelling read, and the novels are companions, so there's only two.
ReplyDeleteYou perfectly summed up my current feelings about series. I know there are some great ones out there, but it really is an investment. I just added a new one to my Goodreads shelf though after reading an intriguing review at I Eat Words. It's called The Nightmare Affair, and its about a school for paranormal creatures a la Harry Potter.
Two book companion "series" are nice since they don't drag things out quite as long!
DeleteI've seen a lot of buzz about The Nightmare Affair lately as well -- I'm not totally sold yet, so I'll be interested to hear what you think of it if you do read it :) If a story skates too close to Harry Potter territory, I'm not sure how I'll feel about it...
I know what you mean about series - so many of them, and so many I want to read! But I do like to wait until all the books are out - I'm not one for delayed gratification :-)
ReplyDeleteSo many is right! If I really wanted to I could have made this list even longer, but I had to draw the line somewhere!
DeleteDefinitely pick up Divergent! :) I'm planning to read Daughter of smoke and bone soon. Born wicked sounds good.
ReplyDeleteNice list!
Top 10 Tuesday - Mel@thedailyprophecy.
Thanks for the recommendations Mel! That's the nice thing about "admitting" all the great series I haven't started yet -- getting some great ideas about where to start from fellow bloggers :)
Delete"sometimes it irks me when it seems every new book coming out is part of a series. Sometimes I want to linger, but other times I just want to know what happens!"
ReplyDeleteYES! I especially feel this way about YA. So many of them look intriguing, but I don't like signing on for so much teen angst.
The only two on your list that I've read are the All Souls' and Sigma Force books. Sigma is GREAT... and yes, it's a series, but with I just a couple exceptions, they don't end on cliffhangers where you HAVE to read the next one immediately. I mean, definitely read them in order, because they do progress, but it's not a series you have to read start to finish all at once. (Sorry, James Rollins is my favorite author, I try to reign in the gushing but it's hard!)
I REALLY liked A Discovery of Witches. I thought Shadow of Night kinda stalled out, though... still good, but not a whole lot happens. I'm eagerly anticipating the third book.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way Charleen!
DeleteI have all of Sigma Force books since my husband really enjoys the series -- he keeps telling me how good they are, but I just haven't gotten around to them yet! The funny thing is that I was actually the one who discovered the books for him -- I stumbled across them in Target one day and had never heard a single thing about the author previously. I thought the books sounded good and I thought the hubby would like them as well, so I used that as my "excuse" to buy the first two (since I really *shouldn't* have been buying more books just for myself!) He ended up loving them and I keep getting him all the new ones that come out, but I still haven't read them myself! I love your enthusiasm though, so I think I might need to bump these ones closer to the top of my list :)
I've been stalling myself on A Discovery of Witches -- I have both books & my husband loved these ones as well -- but other books keep stealing my attention! I swear, I will read them before the end of the year! Part of me wants to wait until all three are out, but I don't think that should be too much longer.
Oh, I totally forgot Fairwick and Merrily Watkins! I have the firsts in both of those in my TBR. The Watkins especially keeps getting shuffled around in hopes I'll get to it soon. So many!
ReplyDeleteI have the first Fairwick book out from the library, so I'm planning to read that one next! I've heard such good things about Merrily Watkins, but I was having trouble getting my hands on the books since I don't think they were originally published in the US (and since I really don't need more books -- I was hoping to borrow these from the library as well!) -- They are definitely on the "someday" list. Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteA Wrinkle in Time is one of my favorite series of all time! I think I read and reread A Swiftly Tilting Planet about 100 times (my favorite of the series...it has UNICORNS! :D), and I know I've owned several copies of it through the years.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear such high praise for this series! I just recently picked up an absolutely gorgeous paperback set at my local used bookstore which has inspired me to give these a go -- and they are so pretty :)
DeleteOooh yes I need to read the The Fairwick Chronicles and The Taker trilogy too!! Great list, I love that you've got it all mixed up with YA, Adult, and Middle Grade. :) New follower.
ReplyDeleteGood luck getting some of these knocked out! My Top Ten Tuesday!
Thanks Bonnie! I'll have to go check yours out :)
DeleteThis is by far the most comprehensive list I've seen all day! I love that you split them up into different genres! I read the first two books of the All Souls trilogy - talk about LONG books! They were great at the beach though!
ReplyDeleteThe All Souls trilogy is one of the ones I'm most looking forward to -- I also have them as picks for several challenges, including the Series Catch-Up one, so they are definitely at the top of the list!
DeleteI have Anglelology as my next read. I didn't know it was part of a series. Lol! I have only read book on your list. Smoke and bone and Discovery of witches. Great list and thanks for letting me know about some new to me reads.
ReplyDeleteThe sequel to Angelology isn't actually out yet, and I truthfully couldn't tell you if there will be additional books after it or not -- but if it's more than one, I say it's a series! Can't wait to hear if you like it!
DeleteThe Summer series by Jenny Han is a PERFECT Summer read! LOVED that series! ALSO Daughter of Smoke & Bone is one of my top ALL TIME FAVORITES! Divergent was incredible..I still need to read the next book though..
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog! :)
I think may wait until actual summer to read the summer books! Those other two have had practically unanimous praise, so I will definitely get to them when I have time. Thanks for the visit Elizabeth :)
DeleteI have both A Wrinkle in Time and Lisel & Po sitting on my shelf this very second, but I haven't read either of them. I should. Thanks for the push!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: http://shelversanon.blogspot.com/2013/03/top-10-tuesday-series-id-like-to-start.html
You're welcome Shelver! I have the Spindlers ordered along with Requiem so I may read that and Liesl & Po very soon :)
DeleteBeautiful Creatures and Summer are on my list too! Divergent is one of the most amzing books I've ever read :D
ReplyDeleteTop 10 Tuesdays
Lots of votes for Divergent! I will definitely be making time to read those soon -- thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteI've enjoyed the first two books of the All Souls Trilogy so far! I'm excited for the third. I think I'm one of the rare folks who enjoyed the second book more than the third, but I also listened to the first and I found it a draining audio experience. I've learned that 20+ hours is too much! I think you'll enjoy them :)
ReplyDeleteWOW, yea 20+ hours is a lot for an audio book. I usually only listen to audio for long car trips and if I don't finish the book while driving it takes me forever to get to the end listening to it in little snippets. I have the print version of this one though, so I think I'll be OK :)
DeleteI have not heard of Sand Storm and I'm really happy you have this on your list. I have added it to goodreads. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, even though I know you know I'm going to say this... you must read A Discovery of Witches! Oh and Divergent. But I know how time consuming and hard it is sometimes to start new series especially if you are already reading so many. Also, I don't blame you for waiting till all the books are published. That is a really great idea. Plus, if there are cliff hangers you don't have to wait to read the next book and the story would be fresh in your mind.
I think the James Rollins books are good picks for fans of Dan Brown -- going by my husband's review of them, I think we'll both enjoy that series!
DeleteAnd yes, I think it has become clear to me that Discovery of Witches & Divergent definitely should be my priority when it comes to series to start next :)
I almost just fell over when i saw you haven't read Divergent! AMAZING BOOK I know your are trying to dwindle down your series, but this one is worth it 100 % . And believe it or not I don't branch out from YA paranormal or urban fantasy.. but back before i knew what my niche was ...i actually read the Pink Carnation.. and it wasn't bad.. I kinda liked it . Im sure it was amazing to others but i wasn't used to reading something that was realistic / historical but it was a great read. - katie
ReplyDeleteI know, I know -- so much love for that series out there and I'm still out of the loop! I AM trying to dwindle my series, but judging by this list, I think I'll be reading series for quite some time to come! And I'm sure the Pink Carnation books aren't for everyone, but I do enjoy historical fiction -- I'm not too much of a niche reader -- rather, there are a LOT of different niches I enjoy, so I do want to give these a try :)
