After recent events put a bit of a kink into my Bout of Books plans, I've really been looking forward to giving another readathon a try. This coming Saturday from 12-4PM is the very first National Readathon Day being launched by Penguin Random House and the National Book Foundation and I'm really excited to be participating, especially since it's for such a good cause. Money raised by this event is benefiting the National Book Foundation to promote literacy and fund education programs. Since I first heard about this event from the Books on the Nightstand podcast, I've made my donation to their fundraising team. (Awesome bookish podcast, by the way, especially if you are an audiobook fan.)
I'm not exactly supposed to be glued to the couch for four hours straight given all my pregnancy craziness lately, but there's no reason I can't take breaks to get up and move around. I haven't decided yet what I will read, but I have a stack of graphic novels from the library as well as a short book club selection I am considering. I'm attempting to read ahead for the next few months of book club anyway, so this seems like a good opportunity to get started. And of course, whatever audiobook I'm in the middle of is always an option, especially if I feel like I am sitting for too long.
Will you be making #timetoread this Saturday?
This sounds great! I have absolutely no plans for Saturday so I'll definitely be joining in. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! Glad to hear you'll be joining :)
DeleteSounds great! Unfortunately I have plans that day or I would totally do it. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteYea, weekends can be tough sometimes, especially on short notice -- I'm pretty boring lately though, lol
DeleteI'm participating in this event too on Saturday!! I learned about it on Goodreads initially. I just wish it wasn't in the middle of the day on Saturday as my hubby and I like to do things during the day. I plan to read Have You Seen Jessica Jenkins? by Liz Kessler. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThat's great! Saturdays are tough -- I'm sure it has to be on the weekend when the most people don't work, but you're right, afternoons can often be busy -- I'm looking forward to a low-key Saturday though (as most of mine have been lately anyway!) Enjoy your book :)
DeleteI think I will! Sounds like a great way to finish up a book I'm reading.
ReplyDeleteThats great! Have fun :)
DeleteCool! Thanks for letting us know about this. I love readathons, but especially if it's widely received and if it's for a great cause.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I posted early now instead of waiting til Saturday :) Glad you'll be joining -- happy reading!
DeleteI'm so sad that I can't participate. I work all day on Saturday. :( This is such a good idea though! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteAww that stinks :( But if you're working at the library, surrounded by books, you can be with us in spirit, so to speak.
DeleteHope you are having fun reading! Graphic novels are always awesome for readathons :)
ReplyDeleteThey really are! I'm totally addicted and reading some for my current read-a-thon too :)
DeleteI so wanted to post this one too but I completely forgot when I book club website crashed. I need to add a few graphic novels to my TBR list for this year. (Like Saga)
ReplyDeleteSaga is so good! You definitely should check it out -- only downside of a current comic is the wait for new installments, but I think this one will be worth it :)
