It's been a really long time since I did a Top Ten Tuesday and I wasn't going to join in today either until I started seeing everyone else's lists! I'm going to fudge "winter" a bit and call this the 10 books I'd like to read before baby is due in April. I'm not going to beat myself up if I don't end up reading them all. But I thought this would be a good opportunity to pick out a few I'd really like to get to soon since things will be very up in the air come spring. I tend to be a mood reader, so my current mood is definitely reflected in this list and it may change -- but don't worry, I will never have a lack of choices when it comes to reading material if I change my mind!
Outlander series #2-#4, by Diana Gabaldon
I want to read all eight, but I'm trying to be realistic here. I've slowed down since finishing my re-read of the first book because I am also reading other things. I would be extremely happy if I got through the next three over the next few months.

by Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling)
I CANNOT believe I haven't read these two yet!
* * * * *
Night Film, by Marisha Pessl
I'm ashamed to admit I have a looooong overdue ARC of this one which is crazy because I've been wanting to read it since the moment I first heard about it.
* * * * *
The Rehearsal, by Eleanor Catton
I've been wanting to read this one ever since all the hubbub over The Luminaries. I went to an all-girls Catholic school, but have never read a book set in one, so I am very intrigued.

The Secret History, by Donna Tartt
Another author where I feel I don't want to start with the massively long, award-winning book. And I've heard nothing but praise for this earlier book of Tartt's.
* * * * *
At least one YA book
I haven't been gravitating toward YA quite as much lately, but I have SO many I want to read I'm having a hard time choosing!
* * * * *
At least 1 Classic
At the moment, I can't decide on a title, but I have been neglecting my classics reading and would like to read at least one Classics Club book soon.
It looks like you've picked a number of chunksters to reads before your due date - wise move! Haha. I'm not good with longer length books anyway but since having Alexander they take me about double the time to read. I think it took me nearly two weeks to get through Night Film; well worth it though.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
:-)
Bits & Bobs
Who knows what will happen come the spring! I'm torn between two different approaches to post-baby reading -- 1. slowly working my way through bigger books so I don't have to make any decisions about what to read next. or 2. reading shorter/easier books so I have the possibility of actually finishing something at all! -- It will all be new to me though, so I'll see how it goes and enjoy my chunksters now for sure :)
DeleteGreat reading choices! Good idea to knock off a few big ones before baby comes along :) I just read The Silkworm recently -- I like both of these books by JKR very much. And I'm a huge Outlander fan, so YAY for having these at the top of your list! Good luck -- I hope you enjoy your winter reading.
ReplyDeleteThose are all at the top of my list for a reason! Definitely looking forward to them a lot :)
DeleteI absolutely adore The Secret History and it's the perfect winter book! Enjoy your winter reads :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hadn't even really thought of it as a specifically winter book season-wise, but good to know it's a good fit :)
DeleteI also liked Secret History a lot - hope you enjoy too. The Night Film seems like a good choice for the season, I'm hoping to read it one day as well. :)
ReplyDeleteAll the love for the Secret History is making me want to bump a little higher up on the list :)
DeleteI've put Night Film on my list of books to read this winter too - hopefully we'll both enjoy it! Looks like you have a good winter ahead of you :)
ReplyDeleteI hope so too! Enjoy your winter reads Ellie :)
DeleteThat's quite a bit to read but more power to you :) I've been meaning to read the Rowling/Galbraiths too and not yet got round to it. Hope you get to those 3 Outlander books and fingers crossed for a couple more :)
ReplyDeleteI've been churning through books lately, so hopefully my extended time frame will allow me to read a good number of these if not all of them!
DeleteGreat list, I've kept meaning to read The Cuckoo's Calling for ages.
ReplyDeleteCora @ Tea Party Princess
I bought it soooo long ago -- it's really a shame how long it's just been sitting on my shelf -- I hope you enjoy it too when you get a chance :)
DeleteDo you know if it's a boy or girl yet? I haven't read any of these yet. They are on my "One Day" list. LOL! I have heard mixed things about the Rowlings book. Hmmm!
ReplyDeleteNot yet! We will (hopefully) find out at our next ultrasound though if baby is cooperating and the tech can get a good look :)
DeleteI've heard mostly good things about Rowling's mysteries, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed they're as good as I hope they will be :)
I'm about where you are with the Outlander series - I've read the first book, but haven't gotten to the rest of the series yet. I keep hearing wonderful things about it, so I'll probably get there eventually. :) I hope you enjoy The Secret History. I started with Tartt's Goldfinch, and let's just say it wasn't my favorite book ever. I hope The Secret History is better. Enjoy each and every one of your reads!
ReplyDeleteThe Outlander series is so good! For the first 6 books this is a re-read for me, so I know what I'm in for, but it's fun to revisit old favorites -- and hopefully it won't take me too long to get to the newer books that are brand-new-to-me reads :) I hope you enjoy the rest of the series when you get a chance!
DeleteNight Film is really good.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have both The Rehearsal & Secret History if you wanted to read either of them at the same time?
Good to know about Night Film -- I've been in the mood for mysteries lately and I think that one will be just the thing.
DeleteAnd sure! I'm up for a buddy read for either of those, though I may be a little slower than usual this time of year :)
I haven't read The Cuckoo's Calling yet either. What is our problem?! lol I still want to read all the Outlander books. I may make that a mini challenge for myself next year. I also want to read The Secret History, but I guess I am intimidated.
ReplyDeleteThe first Outlander is still the best, but I must say I'm enjoying Dragonfly In Amber (bit by bit!) The Secret History is a little intimidating, but not so much as The Goldfinch, so I'm thinking it's worth a go!
DeleteAnd I have NO IDEA what is wrong with us! Must remedy this JK Rowling deficiency ASAP :)
