Top Ten Tuesday (#16): My Auto-Buy List

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I am forever trying to curb my book buying, but more often than not I just can't help myself! Whether it's Amazon, Half.com, my local used bookstore, Marshalls (yes, they sell books!), or random book displays and bargain bins I stumble upon, I just love getting new books. I love new-to-me older books almost as much as brand-spanking-new releases, but I'll admit there's something special about the anticipation of a favorite author publishing a new title. No matter how hard I try to reduce my book buying, there is no kidding myself here -- I will always buy anything these these writers come out with.

    1. No need to hide in shame! I always tell people who haven't read this series yet that in a way I'm a little jealous since you still have the experience of reading them for the first time ahead of you. Such a magical series that I highly recommend -- I hope you enjoy them immensely once you get around to reading them!

    1. O wow Trish, you're so welcome! I'm honored you took the time to stop by and check out this post. I am so excited for the cover reveal of Where the Stars Still Shine tomorrow :)

  4. Good list. I've read Morton, Rowling, and Oliver, and whilst I wasn't keen on Morton I can see why all three would be on your list. The others make "sense", too. Popular and praised authors.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Charlie -- I can see why Kate Morton's books wouldn't necessarily be for everyone, but I personally love her writing so much. I practically inhaled her first three novels and just got lost in the stories, the characters, the mysteries, and the atmosphere of them. Though I bought it immediately, I haven't been able to bring myself to read The Secret Keeper yet since I have no idea how long it will be before she writes another book!

  5. J. K. Rowling made my list this week too. Lauren Oliver is a great choice too. I have to admit, I haven't read any of the other authors on your list, I don't believe.

    1. Now I'm really curious to see what made your list Jade. And I'm sure I'm not unique in picking Rowling by any means!

    1. So many great authors, it's really hard to narrow the list down! I'll definitely have to check your list out to see who you did choose :)

  7. Oh, that pesky urge to buy too many books -- it gets me EVERY time :) I have more books in my possession than I will ever be able to read in my lifetime and yet I keep buying MORE. What is wrong with me??

So, I haven't read most of the authors on your list, but only because of the above problem. So many books, so little time ...

Glad to have found you via TTT!

    1. I wonder what is wrong with me too! I suppose there are worse things we could be addicted to than discovering and buying new books though :)

  10. I'm amused that you have Lauren Oliver and Lauren DeStefano next to each other because in pre-blogging days I could never keep them separate in my head!

    1. I probably would have mixed them up before I actually read the books, but now since they are two of my favorite series, I find it a lot easier to keep them straight!

  11. Sara Gruen is a fantastic writer, but all I've ever read is Water for Elephants! I may have to change that!

    1. Her other books are really good as well, though Water for Elephants remains my favorite :)

  12. Dan Brown is a great choice. I'm kind of sad I didn't put him on mine. lol I need to read another book by Sara Gruen since I loved Water for Elephants. Any suggestions?

I don't think I've heard of Ami McKay, I will have to look into this author.

    Requiem is almost here!! :)

    1. If I really wanted to, I'm sure my list could easily have surpassed 10!

Sara's other books are quite different from Water for Elephants, but they are all good in their own right. Personally, I liked Riding Lessons & Flying Changes (which are pre-Water for Elephants) better than the newer Ape House, but I think they are all worth reading, even though Elephants is still far and away my favorite.

Ami McKay has only written two books, but I really enjoyed her debut The Birth House. I have her second The Virgin Cure on my shelf and hope to get to it soon. There's just something about her writing that I really enjoy.

and YAY! for Requiem being almost here :)

  13. Dan Brown is on my list too! I love the way he thinks and he never has let me down. I will have to get this one. Anne Rice is another one for me too!

  15. I hear good things about Kate Morton so she's on my to-read list. I joined the Classics Club today and added the 7 books in the Harry Potter series. I wasn't crazy about Water for Elephants, just ok for me. Thanks for the recommendations, I always love trying out authors I have not read before. Gonna have to add Dan Brown as well.
